Cefdinir Decarboxy Open Ring Lactone (CAS 178949-04-7) es una impureza de degradación estructuralmente relacionada con el cefdinir, cefalosporina de tercera generación, originada por apertura del anillo β-lactámico seguida de descarboxilación, reordenamiento y lactonización. Con fórmula molecular C13H15N5O4S2 y peso molecular de 369.42 g/mol, conserva el motivo sulfurado dihidrotiazínico pero pierde el farmacóforo cephem intacto. Esta transformación concuerda con vías hidrolíticas y de estrés durante almacenamiento o elaboración. Por su carácter polar y no volátil, su caracterización suele requerir LC-MS/MS, LC-MS de alta resolución y perfilado de impurezas por HPLC en fase reversa con detección por arreglo de diodos o MS. No es una nitrosamina, aunque es pertinente para controles indicativos de estabilidad.
