La impureza EP de bacitracina P, también designada bacitracina J2, es un péptido cíclico relacionado de forma estrecha dentro del complejo de bacitracina, originado principalmente por microheterogeneidad biosintética y variación de la cadena peptídica durante la fermentación o la purificación posterior. Con fórmula molecular C66H103N17O16S y peso molecular de 1422,70 g/mol, presenta la arquitectura peptídica característica de las bacitracinas, incluyendo residuos con azufre y motivos tiazolínicos, y se diferencia de los componentes mayoritarios por cambios sutiles de secuencia y estado de oxidación. Su caracterización requiere típicamente RP-HPLC ortogonal, LC-MS/MS y espectrometría de masas de alta resolución, además de mapeo peptídico y fragmentación en tándem.
