26583-71-1: Mexiletine EP Impurity D
It is an impurity present in Mexiletine, Mexiletine is a class 1B antiarrhythmic agent, By which inhibits the sodium current required for the initiation and conduction of impulses, by that reducing the rate of rise of the action potential. reduced-sodium current by inhibiting sodium channels. Mexiletine decreases the effective refractory period in Purkinje fibers in the heart. decrease in the effective refractory period (ERP) is of lesser magnitude than the decrease in action potential duration (APD) by that increase in the ERP/APD ratio. which is used in the treatment of ventricular tachycardia and symptomatic premature ventricular beats and prevention of ventricular fibrillation.
