N-Nitroso-N-Ethyl-Benzylamine (NEBzA), CAS 20689-96-7, is a secondary nitrosamine impurity of structural concern because N-nitroso functionality is associated with electrophilic metabolic activation and potential genotoxicity. With molecular formula C9H12N2O and molecular weight 164.20 g/mol, it may arise from nitrosation of N-ethylbenzylamine during manufacture or from exposure of tertiary amine precursors to nitrosating conditions. Such species are addressed within contemporary nitrosamine risk assessments and ICH M7 frameworks. Trace determination commonly requires LC-MS/MS, often complemented by GC-MS or high-resolution MS, owing to low regulatory thresholds and matrix-dependent interferences.References
