Perindopril Related Compound
Perindopril belongs to a family of drugs known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It improves blood flow by reducing the formation of certain natural substances that constrict blood arteries.

FAQ
What is the therapeutic class of perindopril?
Perindopril is a nonsulfhydryl prodrug that belongs to the class of drugs known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors.
What is the mechanism of action of perindopril?
ACE is a peptidyl dipeptidase that catalyzes the conversion of angiotensin I, an inactive decapeptide, to angiotensin II, a vasoconstrictor. Angiotensin II is a potent peripheral vasoconstrictor that increases adrenal cortex aldosterone production while providing negative feedback on renin secretion. Inhibiting ACE reduces plasma angiotensin II, which causes vasoconstriction, increased plasma renin activity, and reduced aldosterone production.
What function does perindopril serve in diabetes?
(Brichard S;Ketelslegers JM;Lambert AE) find that perindopril normalizes blood pressure in most hypertensive diabetic individuals without impairing diabetes management quality. It also causes a significant and consistent decrease in microalbuminuria in diabetic nephropathy patients.
