Polmacoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) approved for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Developed as CG100649, it was approved for clinical use in South Korea in February 2015.
Polmacoxib has a dual mechanism of action:
∙ It selectively inhibits COX-2 (cyclooxygenase-2), reducing pain and inflammation.
∙ It also inhibits carbonic anhydrase (CA), which may offer additional therapeutic or safety benefits over traditional NSAIDs.
It is typically used in once-daily oral dosage forms and is intended for short- to medium-term symptom relief in joint and musculoskeletal disorders.
