Quetiapine is a novel antipsychotic medication having structural similarities to tricyclic antidepressants (TCA). We present a case of a quetiapine overdose that originally resembled a TCA overdose and resulted in a false-positive TCA immunoassay.

Quetiapine increases prefrontal dopamine release by antagonism of 5-HT2A receptors, a partial agonist of 5-HT1A receptors, and antagonism of a2 adrenoceptors.
