Risedronate Sodium Impurities

Risedronate sodium is used to:

• Treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men
• Prevent bone loss due to long-term steroid use
• Treat Paget’s disease of bone, which leads to weakened or deformed bones
  Its primary benefit is in reducing the risk of fractures, especially in the spine and hip.

Common side effects include:

• Abdominal pain
• Heartburn or indigestion
• Nausea or constipation
• Muscle, joint, or bone pain

Less common but serious side effects:

• Esophageal irritation or ulcers
• Jaw bone problems (osteonecrosis), especially after dental surgery
• Unusual thigh bone fractures (rare, with long-term use)

• Take first thing in the morning, at least 30 minutes before food, beverages (except water), or other medications.
• Take it with a full glass (6–8 oz) of plain water
• Avoid lying down or reclining for at least 30 minutes after taking the dose.

• Risedronate can irritate the esophagus and may cause esophagitis, ulcers, or heartburn if it refluxes back up the throat.
• Staying upright (sitting or standing) for 30 minutes ensures the tablet reaches the stomach quickly and helps prevent esophageal irritation.
