7-(Hydroxymethyl)tetrahydrobiopterin with IUPAC Name (6R) -2-amino-6 - ((1R, 2S) -1,2-dihydroxypropyl) -7- (hydroxymethyl) -2,3,5,6,7,8-hexahydropteridin-4 (1H) -one is an impurity of Sapropterin. Sapropterin is synthetic 6R-tetrahydrobiopterin (6R-BH4), a cofactor for phenylalanine hydroxylase, which is the reason that it restores the activity of phenylalanine hydroxylase as well as reduces phenylalanine concentration in the blood.
