Atorvastatin Related Compound H, also designated Atorvastatin Lactone and Atorvastatin EP Impurity H, CAS 125995-03-1, is the intramolecular lactonized degradation product of atorvastatin arising under acidic or dehydrating conditions. This neutral bicyclic impurity, formula C33H33FN2O4 and molecular weight 540.62 g/mol, reflects conversion of the hydroxyacid side chain to the corresponding lactone while retaining the fluorophenyl pyrrole pharmacophore. Its structural isomerism and close chromatographic behavior require orthogonal characterization by LC-MS/MS, high-resolution LC-MS, and, where needed, NMR for definitive assignment. In pharmacopeial and stability studies, its presence informs hydrolytic instability and impurity profile control.References
