It is one of impurity present in Rapamycin. which is a macrocyclic lactone antibiotic produced by the bacteria Streptomyces hygroscopicus, Its mechanism of action is the inhibition of the mammalian target of rapamycin, which is a threonine-specific protein kinase that regulates cell growth. which is used to regulate longevity and maintain normal glucose homeostasis. Targeting mTOR received more attention especially in cancer as mTOR signaling pathways are constitutively activated in many types of human cancer. Is an antifungal agent with potent anticandida activity also it is a potent antitumor and immunosuppressive activity.
