Description

Almotriptan Related Compound C, also designated N-Desmethyl Almotriptan or Almotriptan EP Impurity A, is the nor-analogue of the sulfonamide triptan Almotriptan, CAS 334981-12-3. With molecular formula C16H23N3O2S and molecular weight 321.44 g/mol, it lacks the N-methyl substituent on the side-chain amine, a change that can arise as a synthetic precursor, process impurity, or metabolic N-dealkylation product. Its polar, basic character and chromatographic behavior typically require LC-MS/MS, LC-DAD, or high-resolution LC-MS for trace-level characterization and quantification. It is not a nitrosamine, but remains relevant in impurity profiling because structural analogues may affect impurity specification and related-substance control.
