Erythromycin Phthalic acid adduct
It is one of impurity present in Erythromycin, Erythromycin is a bacteriostatic antibiotic, that acts by inhibiting protein synthesis by binding to ribosomal RNA. It stops bacterial protein synthesis by inhibiting the transpeptidation of protein synthesis and by inhibiting the assembly of the 50S ribosomal subunit. which results in the control of various bacterial infections, and also causes hepatic dysfunction, cholestatic jaundice, and abnormal liver transaminases.
