It is an impurity present in Sumatriptan, Sumatriptan is a serotonin receptor agonist, sumatriptan constricts cranial blood vessels and prevents the release of vasoactive peptides, also is an agonist of 5-HT1B and 5-HT1D. which inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory neuropeptides. Sumatriptan decreases carotid arterial blood flow and increases blood flow velocity in the internal carotid artery and middle cerebral artery. which is used to treat migraine.
