Salbutamol EP-Impurity I, auch als Salbutamol BP-Impurity I und 4-Benzyl Albuterol bezeichnet, ist eine Strukturverunreinigung der β2-Agonisten-Reihe von Albuterol und entspricht einem benzylsubstituierten Arylether-Derivat. Ihr Auftreten kann aus unvollständiger Debenzylierung, Alkylierungs-Nebenreaktionen oder verfahrensbedingter Verschleppung bei der Herstellung von Salbutamol-Zwischenstufen resultieren. Die Verbindung mit der CAS-Nummer 56796-66-8 besitzt die Summenformel C20H27NO3 und eine Molekülmasse von 329,43 g/mol. Die Identifizierung erfordert in der Regel orthogonale LC-MS/MS, HPLC mit Diodenarraydetektion und gegebenenfalls NMR zur Abgrenzung von verwandten Phenoxypropanolamin-Analoga und Spurenisomeren.
